CAUCUS,
(kô k s) n. pl. cau-cus-es or cau-cus-ses
1.a. A meeting of the local members of a political party especially to select delegates to a convention or register preferences for candidates running for office.
On February 5, 2008 record numbers of DFLers across Minnesota met at their local precinct caucuses to cast their vote for the presidential candidate of their choice in the DFL Presidential Preference Ballot, discuss and pass resolutions, elect delegates to the senate district 47 convention to be held on March 8 and to elect precinct officers for the next two years. Over 2400 DFL'ers participated in the caucuses in Senate District 47. Thank you to all of the volunteers who worked so hard to make this caucus happen: registered unprecedented numbers of participants, conducted their local caucus meetings, counted and reported the ballots, resolutions and delegates and to the school staffs who so ably put up with the unexpectedly large crowds.
